Celebrate Brooklyn Tonight & Mexico City Shows
Hi friends and family,
A last minute reminder that tonight is a very special performance at Celebrate Brooklyn of William Parker’s tribute Ellington in Mourning. The ensemble is huge, but you can see all of us listed on the flyer. Williams music has always been about engaging and improvising with the world we live in. Tonight’s piece doesn’t shy away from the difficult time we find ourselves in, but it’s jubilant, wild and you can dance to it.
Next week, I take a quick trip down to our neighbors in Mexico City for two special concerts on the 22nd of August at Venas Rotas with Rodrigo Ambriz, Aleida Perez and Alex Motta and 23rd of August at Jazzorca with German Bringas and some musicians visiting from Spain. More information below!
It feels incredibly important to go to Mexico after a long time, as our government antagonizes their people both inside our borders and with an ominous threat of invasion. We must build solidarity across this manmade border in a time where our safety and prosperity is more intertwined than ever.
You can also look out for Episode 1 of my new podcast Outernational, a show about music and revolution. My first guest is the incredible Angel Bat Dawid, a Chicago musician, educator and activist.
Solidarity and love,
Amirtha
